Wearable Device for Skeletal Muscle Mechano-Therapy

Public Deposited

Muscle atrophy and volumetric muscle loss (VML) are conditions of significant muscle loss that affect 25-90% of all patients in the ICU. VML is currently treated using a combination of Mechanotherapy, a technique that stimulates unconditioned muscle using mechanical stress, and physical therapy. However, these techniques heavily limit the patient's movement and cost a tremendous amount. Based on the direction of current mechanotherapy designs, our group has created two devices to stimulate unconditioned muscles using mechanical and pneumatic means.
