Design of a new method of ski binding release

Public

Previous studies have shown that the downward force measured at the AFD (Anti-Friction Device) during a forward release represents the forces acting on the skier's leg more accurately than the conventional method of release, and provides safer release characteristics. Axiomatic design was applied (Suh 1990). A binding system was designed incorporating a linkage and spring system that releases the boot heel at a preset force acting on the AFD. A prototype was built and tested.
