We propose a new Japan Studies Program at WPI for our sponsor, Dr. Jennifer deWinter, director of the Japan Project Center. The goal of a Japan Studies Program is to provide more Japanese study-related resources for WPI students. To study the feasibility of this goal, we studied current program structures at WPI, evaluated available resources in and around Worcester, determined the amount of interest amongst students and faculty at WPI, and examined the appropriate phases of growth by conducting a series of focus groups and interviews. We analyzed the data and recommended a Japan Studies Program starting with a Japan Language Program, followed by a Japan Initiative, and a Japanese Minor as the best approach for WPI.
