Horse gait analysis

Public

Injury to the lead foreleg cannon bone of a race horse can end the horse's career or life. To identify the stresses that cause this injury, a gait analysis device was designed, based on a 2-D model of the leg. The designed device was both non-invasive and portable, to allow for more unconstrained, outdoor trials. The stresses calculated from this data were analyzed in terms of gait and ground surface characteristics to better understand the mechanism for injury.
