Analysis of Leghemoglobin Present in Chipilin-Rhizobia Symbiosis

open in viewerThe purpose if this project is to identify a strain of rhizobia bacteria that forms the best symbiotic relationship with Chipilin, a legume, in order to make Chipilin a more profitable crop in New England. The two strains of rhizobia bacteria tested were PNL0i-Brady and USDA 3384. 168 plants were grown from seeds and inoculated either with each of the two strains alone, a combination of the two strains or no rhizobia as a control. Immunoblots were performed for leghemoglobin which resides in plant nodules, resulting from the Chipilin-rhizobia symbiosis process to determine the presence and extent of active symbiosis.
