Design of a CVT for centrifugal supercharger

Public

The purpose was to research, develop, and test a Continuously Variable Transmission prototype for use with current centrifugal supercharger designs. Dynamometer tests of the prototype yielded a 15% increase in horsepower at 3000 RPM. At low to midrange engine RPM a substantial increase in charge density, mass flow rate, and efficiency were obtained with respect to the conventional belt-driven supercharger; contributing to greater power production over a centrifugal system without the continuously variable transmission.
