Applications of Cathelicidin

open in viewerA recombinant form of human antimicrobial polypeptide, LL-37 Cathelicidin, was designed and expressed in human cells with the goal for the peptide to incorporate into cell-derived extracellular matrix. This research project investigated cellular localization of the recombinant Cathelicidin, created stable H1299 cells producing the peptide, conducted initial testing to concentrate the peptide, tested the peptide’s antimicrobial potency against common dermal bacteria, and its attachment affinity to collagen and fibronectin surfaces. Cell-derived ECM with antimicrobial properties could be used for tissue engineering applications.
