For this MQP, the goal was to create a smart prosthetic socket for transfemoral amputees, capable of dynamically adjusting the fit of the prosthetic to the user’s activity level. Specific goals were set to improve the reliability, responsiveness, and practicality of prosthetic socket devices. Our system is able to predict patient movement through the use of an EMG signal processing algorithm, allowing the system to determine which state to move into with the user. Once a state has been determined, our system utilizes different sensors to determine the pressure that a patient applies to four hydraulic bladders which the system then fills or drains accordingly. This project produced a fast and efficient system which can serve as a platform for future tests and clinical trials.
