Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) have become a focal part of research in the Artificial Intelligence community. ITSs have a bad reputation of being known as incredibly difficult to design and to develop. However, a new project known as the Assistments Project, a multi-year project funded by the Department of Education, will calm the stigma that surrounds typical ITSs. Assistments can be designed and developed as quickly as ten to fifteen times faster than a typical ITS. Speed isn't the only positive factor about developing assistments; they're relatively easily to build which opens the field to non-AI experts (specifically educators) to build assistments. The purpose of this paper is to give a quick background on the Assistments Project, including how assistments are built with authoring tools and also to give recommendations on how to improve the typical assistment.
