Microwave Oven Safety Device

Público

Food left to cook unattended for too long in microwave ovens is a fire hazard, especially for the elderly, families with young children, and dormitory-type properties. This project produced a fire safety device for microwave ovens that shuts off power to the microwave when smoke is detected. An MQ-7 carbon monoxide gas sensor is used to detect smoke in the ventilation holes within the case of the microwave. An Arduino Uno rev 3 board controls our custom PCB shield system, switching off the power via a relay and sounding an alarm when smoke is detected.
