Evaluating Cs-137 and X-ray Irradiators for Use Within Hospitals and Research Facilities
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThe purpose of this project was to evaluate whether X-ray irradiation is a viable alternative to Cs-137 irradiation with consideration of the social implications. Interviews, surveys, and simulations were used to draw the final conclusion. Simulations determined that X-ray irradiators were an adequate replacement for certain cesium irradiations. In conclusion, switching to X-rays would benefit the community in terms of safety and security measures. It is recommended that all hospitals and research facilities make the transition from Cs-137 to 320 kVp X-ray irradiators.
