Merton's designated parades are small markets whose purpose is to provide convenient shopping to local residents. Recently parades have witnessed a decline in demand. We conducted surveys of customers, traders, parades and commercial agents, in order to assess the parades' situations, gain an understanding of the underlying factors contributing to parade decline, and suggest ways in which the Merton Council can best improve the parades and their local communities. We concluded the main factors were transportation, competition and atmosphere.
