Design of an indoor constructed wetland for wastewater treatment
PublicDecentralized, environmentally friendly wastewater treatment is necessary to reduce the burden on receiving water bodies, and to reuse rather than dispose of the water. In this project, an indoor-constructed wetland was designed to treat the wastewater from WPI's Campus Center, at an average flowrate of 6,100 GPD. Stacked aquatic treatment tanks were used to minimize the footprint and to allow cascading aeration between tanks. A subsurface-flow wetland was designed for denitrification before UV disinfection and discharge into a leach field.
