Artemisinin Project: Effect of Artemisia annua Extract on Safe ESKAPE Pathogen Relatives
PubblicoContenuto scaricabile
open in viewerArtemisia annua L. contains a known antimalarial drug called artemisinin and other compounds with antibacterial properties. However, there is not a consensus on which bacteria are susceptible to A. annua extracts. This experiment investigated whether an aqueous extract of A. annua would be effective against the ESKAPE pathogens. When tested, the extract did not exhibit antibacterial properties compared to aqueous controls, 5% bleach, and chloramphenicol. Although this aqueous extract did not demonstrate antimicrobial properties against the tested bacteria, extracts produced using more nonpolar solvents might be more effective.
