Wireless Wearable Electromyogram System for the Shoulder

open in viewerThis project analyzes the feasibility of a wireless electromyogram (EMG) shoulder sleeve that monitors four shoulder muscles and transmits data to a peripheral monitor. A system was created that attaches four EMG electrodes to a compression shirt and, with the help of analog circuitry, Nordic nRF52840 microcontrollers, and MATLAB, the EMG signals are sent via Bluetooth low energy (BLE) to a PC and processed into viewable data off-line. Through the development and collection of data for each component of this system, alternate studies were completed on viable options for future EMG systems, including the use of a 24-bit ADC and alternate power supply options. Our results demonstrated a feasible wireless EMG shoulder system, but several areas of improvement can be completed to better optimize for a wireless device.
