Sustainable diversification in the Gwydir Valley
公开The Gwydir Valley's economy currently relies heavily on irrigated cotton farming. Quality of life in the Valley is threatened by the great uncertainties about future water supply and cotton demand, given their dependence on cotton. This project uses a system dynamics model to test the long-term effects of economic diversification, specifically substitution of timber for some cotton farming. Scenario tests conclude that making the proposed substitution would help maintain quality of life if water shortages or demand reductions occur.
