The Flinders Sensitive Line (FSL) rat is an animal model of depression, even though it was originally selectively bred for sensitivity to pesticide. In this experiment FSL rats and their counterpart strain Flinders Resistant Line (FRL) rats were evaluated using two behavioral tests, the forced swim test (FST) and the novel object recognition (NOR) test. They were then treated with the tricyclic antidepressant drug desipramine (DMI) for fourteen days and reevaluated. The expected normalization of depressive-like symptoms was seen in the FST; result of the novel object recognition test were inconclusive.
