Reducing the Ecological Footprint of a Nature Resort

open in viewerRiver Kwai Park & Resort is located in Chongsadao, Kanchanaburi, a province in Thailand. Our sponsor, the resort owner, aims to reduce waste of plastic water bottles by installing a water purification system at the resort. We distributed a survey to the staff and based on responses we created a behavior change plan to encourage staff to drink purified water. The behavior plan revolves around motivation, mentors, and incentives. We recommended two water purifier options based on size, cost, and performance. As the hospitality industry is responsible for a large share of global waste and has an ever growing ecological footprint, implementing sustainable waste management and reduction practices at the resort can set an example of how these issues can be addressed.
