Testing and design of an impact force reducing horseshoe
公开The sport of horseracing has a long history of devastating leg injuries to its prize athletes: the horse. Of the types of injuries most prevalent in horseracing, most of the injuries are of the type induced by the high repetitive peak impact force. The project tested twenty-two materials capable of reducing the reaction force created during impact. The purpose of the testing was to design a horseshoe that would reduce the amount of stress related injuries that commonly occur in the lower limbs of horses. The material we selected was 35 shore A polyurethane. The designed horseshoe was capable of reducing the compressive forces by 84%.
