Low-cost optical tracking for virtual environments

Public

Optical tracking systems are a useful method for tracking objects in virtual environments. The expense of commercially available optical tracking systems makes them cost prohibitive for many institutions. A cheaper system was developed by using less expensive, off-the-shelf components. A reflective marker can be tracked by cameras fitted with LED lights. The two-dimensional image processing is performed by four low-end PCs which relay the information to a fifth machine that calculates the three-dimensional position of the marker.
