Reaching New Heights: Implementing Community Based Tourism in Shaglli, Ecuador

open in viewerSustainable community based tourism (CBT) can benefit rural communities while mitigating the possible disadvantages of large-scale tourism by utilizing connections with the residents. We investigated the social, cultural, economic, and environmental factors that influence sustainable CBT specific to the Shaglli parroquia in Azuay, Ecuador.Through observations, surveys, focus groups, and interviews we developed a plan for the implementation of CBT. This plan included two tourist packages in conjunction with an online presence of the community to attract tourists.
