soloPlane: Modular Electronic Mallet Instrument
Pubblico DepositedMallet instruments provide tactile experiences in music classrooms from elementary school through college and beyond. Existing products—both acoustic and electric—do not offer a full set of features including ruggedness, interactivity, and adaptivity. soloPlane is an electronic mallet instrument which aims to offer a high-quality musical experience at an affordable price. In this project, a proof of concept for the major technical blocks of soloPlane was created. This included the development of custom sensors and accompanying control circuitry to capture and classify the parameters of a percussive strike, a robotic testing rig to capture a dataset for training and validating the algorithms, and software to handle communication between the sensor bars and a controller.
