Solar power is an underutilized resource that can provide many benefits for WPI. A photovoltaic (PV) array at Worcester Polytechnic Institute could improve its standing in the community and provide funding for future endeavors. This report details a feasibility study that addresses the possibility of installing a PV array at WPI. Based on economic and environmental benefits, a recommendation was developed to place a 23kW PV array on the roof of Gordon Library. The PV system would consist of polycrystalline panels mounted using a ballasted system on the Gordon Library. This system would utilize micro inverters to reduce losses due to shading. The PV system is predicted to pay for itself in 6 years and generate over $100,000 in profit during the lifetime of the array.
