For my IQP, I student taught at Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester, Massachusetts. I taught a lower level Algebra I class and two Honors Algebra II classes. At Doherty High there were many behavior problems, especially in my Algebra I class. This taught me classroom management. Doherty High School has a higher dropout rate and lower scores on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System or MCAS than other schools in Massachusetts. My teaching not only focused on algebra but also was shaped by the topics on the MCAS exam. Throughout my teaching experience I demonstrated competence in the Five Professional Standards. My students taught me patience and that everyone is capable of learning.
