open in viewerHemorrhagic shock is a significant cause of death for trauma patients. Current treatment methods face a variety of shortcomings and limitations. The team conducted research and testing which informed the design and prototyping of a device to combat hemorrhagic shock by shunting blood from the lower extremities to the core of the body. The team decided to create a fully functional segment of the device to study proof of concept and create a baseline for the future of the design. Verification testing showed that the device does not obstruct the cutaneous view. Furthermore, the team found the device can be applied within the identified time window of less than five minutes. It was measured that the device can apply 30-50 mmHg which is in the desired range of pressure to meet the device objectives.
