open in viewerAn effective long term stewardship (LTS) program is one that ensures that public health and environmental quality are protected until the site is completely remediated. Community involvement is suggested to improve the effectiveness of LTS of contaminated sites. Our project investigated types of community involvement used as part of LTS activities at Superfund sites. Through examination of Five-Year reviews, this project team determined relationships between types of community involvement and certain factors. Using our literature review and our findings, we suggested recommendations for more effective community involvement programs, and for the further research of this topic. Specifically, the team compiled information that will be useful in improving involvement in LTS programs.
