open in viewerThis study deals primarily with the implementation of a network of manufacturers relying on 3D printers, CNC machines and other automated devices to perform manufacturing activities from their homes. The paper presents an analysis on the adoption of 3D printing by regular consumers, items consumers show interest in making using 3D printers as well as the incorporation of 3D printing into a business model to ensure adequate value creation and capture. A survey is performed to collect data on the demographics of possible home manufacturers and the results are analyzed to develop recommendations for the implementation of this new type of manufacturing economy.
