Development of a gas-pipe climbing robot
PublicA cheap alternative to investigate the aging pipe infrastructure is crucial in developing countries like China where funds are not appropriated to such programs. Therefore, a gas pipe climbing robot is required to inspect pipelines using various sensors to detect blockages and corrosion in the pipe. This project was completed in Wuhan China at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology using design iterations and force analysis to overcome gravity in order to climb in a vertical direction. The results of this project show that the robot is functional with some control system difficulties. This project, although very basic, can be used in conjunction with other robots to create a very viable option for countries to use in pipelines.
