Water degradation from agricultural runoff is a growing problem worldwide, and is visible in places such as Cuenca, Ecuador. Alongside the local organization, ETAPA, we addressed this issue by understanding the current conditions in the Tomebamba and Yanuncay watersheds. After preliminary fieldwork, we determined that for the successful adoption of recommended conservation practices, social tensions between ETAPA and the farmers should first be addressed. Additionally, for conservation practices to be utilized, they must be mindful of available resources.
