Designing for Productivity, Exploring the Cognitive Impact of Architectural Design

This project aims to create a space that optimizes occupant comfort that also incorporates aspects of the PEACE room. In this project, students were tasked to run experiments in a make-shift PEACE room that was created by the previous class and test for participant reactions to color of the LED lights, the size of the space, and a variety of soundscapes. This PEACE room can be controlled through an app called the PEACE.GUI which holds an interface for all the settings that can be changed as well as act as a portal for various softwares that collect data. The data used to collect the participant's reactions include the PANAS survey, a questionnaire, EEG headset, and O2 ring. The experiment is a 15-minute run of the participants sitting in the room through three different settings (that can be run at different times based on the participant's availability) and doing an activity of their choice (provided by the testers or provided on their end). After 15 participants have been completed, a thorough data analysis will be complete to determine the optimal setting types which will then be derived into a fully functioning architectural form and concept.
