Biological Suture Loading

open in viewerFibrin's role in tissue repair make fibrin microthreads an ideal scaffold for implanting stem cells for cardiac regeneration. Currently only human mesenchymal stems (hMSC's) are being implanted. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPC's) encourage angiogenesis and the combination of the two could result in the regeneration of both cardiac muscle and its blood supply. This project aims to design and fabricate a sterile seeding device that is capable of seeding multiple stem cell types onto bundles of fibrin microthreads. These individual microthreads will be combined to form a surgical suture that can be implanted in the affected section of the heart.
