Mines and Me: Addressing the Problems of Unexploded Ordnance

Current landmine detection and removal techniques remain dirty, dull, and dangerous for the people carrying out these jobs. In this report, I explore 4 different prototype solutions for bringing the task of unexploded ordnance removal into the 21st century by taking advantage of recent technology advancements in the field of aerial robotics. These methods include Precision Air Drop (PAD) devices, Seed Ball Projectile Detonation (Reseed), and a user centered design approach for safe and ergonomic demining. With these methods, I intend to broaden the potential uptake of novel technology in environmental and humanitarian efforts as well as inspire innovative thinking in areas in dire need of value creation.
