Reducing Stigmatization of LGBT+ Refugees

Refugees and asylum-seekers that leave due to LGBT+ discrimination are an underrepresented minority within the refugee population. The goal of this project was to design a web app that connects LGBT+ migrants with specialized asylum information, as well as to gather research supporting future iterations. We found communication and security to be the two biggest concerns. In order to inform our application design as well as provide further context into the usefulness of the app, we’ve surveyed and interviewed refugees/asylum-seekers as well as humanitarian workers to get both perspectives. We hope this project will help support existing efforts to advocate for the LGBT+ refugee population, and provide a guide for use in the advocacy sector.
