Effects of leaf and soil feedings on plant plasticity in Drosera Capensis
PublicMorphological responses to specific environments are common in plants. It is believed that carnivorous plants evolved from angiosperms, developing carnivorous traits in response to their environment. However, plasticity of these traits to varying soil nutrients has rarely been examined in carnivorous plants. Two experiments were performed to investigate the influences of varying nutrient levels and delivery modes (soil or leaf feedings) on different stages of development in Drosera capensis. The data collected indicate that environmental conditions, specifically delivery mode and amount of nutrients affect the morphology associated with carnivorous traits in this species.
