open in viewerThis IQP project consists of a six-week stock market simulation. The goal of this IQP is to learn stock market background information and compare two trading methods in the simulation. An online simulator was used with a balance of $100,000 to invest into 5 different companies. The two trading methods were: a combination of the End-of-Day / Swing Trading methods, and the Buy and Hold strategy. This was for the purpose of comparing long term and short-term investments. The End-of-Day and Swing Trading combined strategy total gain was 4.9508% while the Buy-and-Hold strategy total gain was 4.3467%. The total gain of the S&P 500 index was 4.92% over the course of the six-week simulation period. These results indicate that the short-term investments with the End-of-Day and Swing Trading method was the more profitable investing method in the stock market. This IQP project will inform those who are looking to gain more knowledge on investing in the stock market and what types of methods will lead to their maximum success in profits, and other additional trading experience that will be observed in this project report.
