S.C.A.R.E.D. -- Simulation of Crowd Actions in Response to Emergencies and Dangers

Public

Following the work of Helbing et al, an egress modeling system was created to simulate the dynamics of crowds during evacuations. The programs MATLAB and FLUENT were used to model a group of people by representing each individual as a self-driven particle governed by a generalized force model. From these models, evacuating behaviors can be observed under basic scenarios, including movement through a square room and a narrow hallway, or the reaction to a moving or stationary thermal gradient.
