How Youth Find Purpose Through Volunteering and College Life

open in viewerTaiwan’s education system produces high-achieving students. However, due to rigorous curriculums and competitive environments, most students graduate without finding their purpose. In collaboration with Sunny Yang, CEO of the City Wanderer Education Association, this project evaluated ways to help City Wanderer better understand how youth find purpose. Alongside archival research, the team remotely completed surveys and interviews with various volunteering organizations based in Massachusetts, USA and students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The team also compared volunteering to City Wanderer’s Wandering Challenge via surveys and interviews the organization conducted in 2021. We found that: volunteering helps develop an individuals purpose, the Wandering Challenge is more effective at finding purpose, and students conflate purpose to career.
