HydraNet, the DQDB-based local area network
PublicThe inherent disadvantages associated with CSMA/CD (Ethernet) led us to seek an alternative and investigate modifications of the Distributed Queue Dual Bus protocol. Upon understanding the use of a dual bus architecture in a Local Area Network, a new data communication protocol, based on DQDB was implemented for the LAN topology. This new protocol, named HydraNet, uses the concept of a hub based dual bus topology, yielding an efficient and scalable LAN architecture. We succeeded in implementing analog and digital hardware and software system demonstrating our new LAN.
