The goal of this project was to conceive, design, implement and quantify the yield of a system to control the chemical synthesis of small batches of organic chemical compounds. This process involved implementing natural language processing to read input 'recipes', designing a syntax to capture the details of the recipes, developing a compiler that will transform expressions in this syntax into instructions that can control the lab equipment, and then executing the recipe(s) to create the desired result. The system of lab equipment controlled by the compiled code is able to measure chemicals, mix them, move these reactants from one reactor vessel to another, monitor and control temperature in real time, turn on and off equipment such as hot plates, and interact with measuring devices such as scales and mass spectrograph machines.
