Algae Scope: The Potential for a Pilot Macroalgae Farm Within the Venetian Lagoon
Public DepositedDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis project aided Algae Scope in determining the feasibility of implementing a macroalgae farm within the Venetian Lagoon to help mitigate climate change and pollution. We conducted expert interviews regarding macroalgae's environmental impact and industries that can benefit from its cultivation. Using a decision matrix, we determined three suitable locations surrounding the island of Sant’Erasmo in the Venetian Lagoon. We proposed recommendations which include establishing best farming practices, focusing on biofertilizer production, and certifying a carbon sequestration calculation. Future directions for this work include looking into Venetian legislation regarding the lagoon and gaining trust with the community.
