Analytical Model for a Modular Geothermal System Public

A geothermal heat pump system is a renewable energy source that uses earths ground temperature to regulate the temperature of a building. The focus of this study was to design a modular ground heat exchanger unit for a heating system located in New England. This design used well technology to account for the low ground temperatures of the region. The Engineering Equation Solver program was used to build a model, which was created to calculate the thermal resistance and energy transferred thru the model. The model was then iterated to determine how the energy output changes. Through analysis, the final design optimized the system yield. In result, the final design of the system reduced the size and increased the efficiency of installation of the ground portion of the system.
