Carbon Calculators' Shortcomings in Analyzing the Indirect Energy Use of Small Restaurants
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThere are many residential carbon calculators available online, but little has been done to analyze their effectiveness. This project investigated the reliability of available calculators when applied to The People’s Pint, a small restaurant in Greenfield, MA. We found that these calculators failed to take into account numerous indirect energy sources, thus making them ineffective at determining the carbon footprint of a small restaurant. We recommend carbon calculator metrics be made transparent and that sustainability efforts be tailored to businesses.
