FPGA Digital Music Synthesizer
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis project comprised the development of a digital music synthesizer capable of performing subtractive synthesis with several stages of audio effects processing. The system was implemented on the Zedboard, a development board with a Xilinx Zynq System-on-Chip, a multifunctional device which features a dual-core ARM microprocessor and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) logic. The completed synthesizer was capable of producing a wide variety of musical tones, many aspects of which were completely controllable by the user. Overall system control was provided by real-time embedded software running on the ARM microprocessor. Waveform generation and synthesizer effects modules were designed in Verilog and implemented in custom logic using fixed-point digital signal processing techniques.
