3 below zero Saturday Jan. 24 1948 The banquet of the "Blackhawk Hiking Club" this evening at the Arsenal Cafeteria. 114 present Elise arranged the place and menu. The Col Warners were there. All were asked to have fancy head dresses and there were some very original ones. Maybelle Colman won 1st prize with a hat composed of a bed roll for the big hike in miniature with all the accesories. Some were very clever. Dr Hottes from University of Illinois showed his pictures, colored movies of a trip down the San Juan and Colorado rivers. Magnificent pictures. The officers of the club were asked to give a limerick. Mine was We Blackhawk hikers are nuts For we plod along ice covered ruts. We stay out in the rain Again and again To prove we have courage and guts. [Insert: Increase in property equipment accounts]
