Friday, January 26, 1940 9° below zero - Letter from Bil [Drawing, Letterhead:Davenport College Yale University] Dear Mother, Dad Wednesday Just a note beforeclass to tell you about my marks. Don't be too surprised when I tell you I'mon the Deans List (I was hoping to be on but one never knows) There is a new system of grading this year using the alphabet, an A being 100-90, B 90-80, C 80-70, (a C or above being a quality mark). ForDean's List youcan't have at least 3 B's + 2 C's. I got an A (!) in Music (there are no pluses or minuses) C in History 22. B in Sociology, B in Music Comp. (which is high for Donovan) and I don't know Tinkersgrade yet but it probably will be a C. However it can be a D & I still will be on Deans List which means unlimited cuts (which I won't take). It would be great fun to be in Washington spring vacation with mother. I had a very nice time at the Tuttle's on Sunday night. They are very amusing. Alexander [Wo?] was staying with them a while ago Tut said and sat down at the breakfast table at 9 AM. getting up at 1:30 P.M. Anybody that came into Tut's office that morning was asked if he wanted to seeA.W. and have breakfastwith him ([??] the Tuttles a bit). They have given me a ticket for the Hoffmanconcert tonight. I feel a little guilty about taking it as Mrs Tuttle knew I didn't have a ticket and got it especially for me. Our art show is up, and will be opened tomorrow. My Modiglianihas the best plane and was liked very much by Mr Tuttle in a preview of the show. Hope you are both feeling well! Love, Bill
