13. Samuel Birmann, À la Flégère, ca.1826
Public DepositedSamuel Birmann's À la Flégère, is one of his many images of churches oratories and crosses in the Chamonix valley represented the post-Restoration return of religious worship after the French Revolution. The mountains themselves had become temples of nature. Birmann published Souvenirs de la vallée de Chamonix (Basle, 1826), with descriptions of each scene and images in black and white. The hand-colored plates alone were published in Mont Blanc et la vallée de Chamonix.
