Friday, December 16, 1938 Elise and I bough a radio for $2260 to give a woman who has been so crippled with Rheumatism that both leg had to be amputated and she can only move the fingers of one hand. Yet she never complains. She lives at Hillsdale. It seems right to give to such people rather than to those who have everything. Bought a Webster unabridged dictionary for Miss Bradford for $2750. Elises mother has asked Judge Bollinger to see what he can do to save her house and Walter Mueller said he reported today that there was no chance. The School Board insists on taking it. So now the thing for him to do is to drive as sharp a bargain to get as much as possible and to let her stay as long as possible in the house. I'm never consulted for she resents that I advised her to sell. At the Silloways for dinner. Mrs Butterworth, the Davis there too. Elise had her hair done up on top of her head and received many compliments on her looks. Then we took her mother after much persuading to a dance given by the Walter Muellers, [Cundys & Caper?] at the Blackhawk.A very fine party
