Public DepositedDaylight til 9 - Saturday, August 1, 1931 Clear/Cloudy We left River de Loup at 10 Met Miss Mabel Choate daughter of Jos Choate who was an ambassador to England. She had visited Choate Island and we had quite a chat. She lives in Stockbridge. We drove to Matane 126 miles and stayed at Hotel Belle Plage a very good hotel. The road followed the shore all the way. We were fortunate to find a delightful place for lunch at Bic The Bayscroft Tea Room. It was run by the artists wife and she appeared in yellow with picture hat. Nearby a ship was being built by three men axles axes being their only tools. It is being built of B.C. pine & will take a year to complete. The men were artists with an axe. We saw ovens built out ofdoors for baking & stopped to see the bread, many loaves put into the oven, the barns all have 2nd story entrances Many Horses - no tractors. [Drawing: barn?] Haycordes [Drawing: hay wagon] Potatoes everywhere. Elise boughtrug at Point on P "Sandy Beach" Loading pulp wood logs by conveyor in boat at Matane very interesting and efficient.
