Friday, September 12, 1941 Clear [Headlines: DesMoines Register;War news] Saw Linberg getting off train [Letterhead:Rock Island, Rocket] Elise and I went up to Chicago on the early Rocket. Elise bought a blue winter coat, brown had, 2 lamps I attended a meeting of th F.E.I. advisory stantards committee. C.E. Frudden of Allis Chalmers talked to me of an idea he has of conserving materials during this national emergency. He proposes leaving off starters from tractors to save the copper zinc etc. also save chromium by painting tractors grey for the "Duration" and other eliminations. He has not mentioned to anyone else. I said I would take it up tomorrow with Frank Silloway and write him Deere & Co's reaction. It seems to me to be a most constructive idea. Elise and I went home on 505 Rocket I got the Drawing Room so Elise cold rest. [Headlines: World news]
