MONDAY MAY 30 1949 MEMORIAL DAY This morning the Cades and Elise and I Went to the farm and ran the new tractor. We took the Cades and [??] Oty to the Golf Club for dinner at noon. [Stamps: BErlin Postage] 22 Mai 1949 Much honored Mr. and Mrs Brown Your letter of April 14th affected me very deeply and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for so much unselfish good and wonder- ful help. Since you receiced Mr Riemer's letter you can well imagine our situation. Still better would you understand if I could tell you all by word of mouth. With your heavenly S.A.F.E. packages you are saving us, above all, my poor husband, to whom when I have the chance I give some of the food. He is forever grateful to you, more than I can possibley describe to you. On the 27th of June the trial will take place, exactly one day before his 50th birthday; that will make a nice celebration !! As conditions are today in our political situation the punishment will be severe, for he had formally belonged to the Capitalist class. The last time I spoke to him (every 4 weeks for 10 minutes) he told me he had many new ideas in his head and could hardly wait to draw them out.
